Make A Zine
A zine is usually a non – commercial, DIY publication, kind of
like a magazine but with a twist. The main difference between a magazine
and a zine is that zines are not out there to make a profit but, rather, to communicate
a creator's message. Typically zines were made using collage techniques and then photocopied
since these are means available to almost everyone. Today we can add digital creation and publication
to the mix since most individuals have some access to computers.
There are no rules when it comes to designing and creating zines. You are only limited by
your own imagination. Some claim the first zine was Common Sense. A pamphlet written and
published by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 advocating independence from Great Britain to people in
the Thirteen Colonies. A popular type of zine is a fanzine. These zines were created by individuals or
groups of individuals who shared a common interest, such as science fiction. A perzine is a person's
expression, opinion, journey related to a personal subject. A photozine is made of of photographs.
