INTRODUCTION
Surrealism is an artistic movement that began in the early 1920s in response to the horrors and destruction of World War 1. In 1924, Andre Breton and others wanted to revolutionize the way society thinks. They wanted to focus on their dreams or unconscious minds in order to recreate a new reality, a reality that was beyond the real or surreal. Salvador Dali is the most famous of the Surrealists.
Surrealists created work that had a dreamlike effect, dislocation, transformation, ugliness, senseless, surprise, shock and fun. |
