SKILL: Values
The objective of this assignment is to see and understand the variety of VALUES in black and white photography. It might be called black and white, but it is actually black, white and a bunch of grays.
ASSIGNMENT
Divide a black and white photograph into the 11 values in the Value Scale, using the polygonal or lasso tool and average blur tool. Label each divided shape with the corresponding Value Scale number 0 - 10.
1. Open the photo in Photoshop.
2. Select a value shape using the polygonal or lasso tool.
3. Use FILTER > BLUR > AVERAGE to simplify the value. Once you complete this step, you can use the shortcut CMD & CTRL & F to apply the BLUR > AVERAGE step. Continue this step until the entire photo is simplified values.
4. Place a VALUE SCALE into your photoshop document. Use this chart to label each value with the corresponding number 0 - 10. Use the TEXT tool and choose a bright color that will stand out against the black and white values.
5. Post to your Weebly Website and submit a notification in Schoology.
