Photographic Scavenger Hunt
Before we start the first lesson in Digital Photography, I like to assess your photographic skills. Some classes might give you a pre-test to determine your existing knowledge of a topic. In this class you will demonstrate your knowledge of photographic skills by participating in a scavenger hunt.
Your objective is to take the best photograph you can using the 21 prompts on the Scavenger Hunt list that will be handed out in class.

Before you start your Scavenger Hunt, let's take a look at the photographs below.
What do you think the photos have in common? What is the focal point or center of interest? Can you describe the balance in the photo? Is the photo static or dynamic? What color theory is used? What about contrast?
Transfer photos to Your Computer
Transferring photographs from your camera or cell phone to your computer is called UPLOADING. There are three ways to upload photos.
1. If you have an iPhone you can AIRDROP the photos from your gallery to your computer. When the computer receives the transfer you have two options for saving the photos, 1. send photos to DOWNLOADS or 2. send photos to the computer's "PHOTOS" app. I prefer to send photographs to the Photos app, but either option is a good choice.
2. Share your photos to your Google Drive on your cell phone. Once on your school computer once your Google Drive and download the photos to your desktop.
3. If your device has a memory card, remove it and insert it into the back of the desktop computer. These photos can be uploaded to the Photos app.
DOWNLOADING VS UPLOADING. WHAT's THE DIFFERENCE?
Downloading photos, music, games, files, etc. is when you are transferring from a server. When we get photos from websites to use in projects, we are downloading the images from a server. When you get a game from Steam, you are downloading the game to your computer.
When we transfer photos from our cell phone or cameras to our computers, we are uploading the photos. When you transfer data between cell phones or computers you are uploading the information.

Saving Photos & Projects to Weebly
Your Weebly website is where you will publish your photographs and projects. I will grade your work by reviewing your photos, written assessments and projects that have been properly posted to your website. If your work is not published, in the correct manner (Labeled with a specific description according to instructions, as opposed to, a description you made up), I will not be able to grade it. This assignment should be a new page that is labeled "SCAVENGER HUNT".
We will go over the detailed instructions on using your website in class. If you are confused about any instructions, or have any questions - ASK FOR HELP. There are no bad questions, as long as they relate to your work. Here are some basic tips to always remember: Use a GALLERY for all photos and projects. Do not use IMAGE. Your work must be converted to JPEG's. JPEG's must be smaller than 10 MB. Weebly will prompt you to upgrade to a paid subscription in files are larger than 10 MB. You don't need that. Large images can be resized in Photoshop. Label all your work with titles and descriptions (captions). |
