Elongated Collage Examples
INTRODUCTION You can create a new meaning or message by combining two photographs together in a collage. Single photographs have meaning and can create messages, but when two photos are combined you have more information to compare and contrast. Look at the collage to the right. What could this image mean? There are two seemingly identical photos that are collaged together in a distorted manner. The collage pieces are put together in a vertical pattern. The pieces do not align. Without knowing the artist's intention, you are left to discover what the image means to you.
So, what does this collage mean to you? I interpret this collage as a person who feels out of sorts. The collage appears to be made using one photo that is cut into many vertical strips. The strips are pieced together in sequential order, but are not aligned vertically. This misalignment communicates the out of sorts feeling, to me.
